What is early voting?

Early voting is the period before an election where you can vote in person at your polling place before Election Day. You will follow the same procedure to fill out a ballot as you would on Election Day.

Most states have early voting. The early voting period is generally one to two weeks before Election Day. Scroll down below to find the dates of your state’s early voting period.

What’s the difference between early voting and in person absentee voting?

Early voting is when you cast your ballot at your polling location in the designated period before Election Day.

In person absentee voting is when you turn in the ballot that has been mailed to you and you have already filled out. This may be useful if you believe that your ballot won’t be received by the elections office in time if you mail it.

What do I need to bring to the polls?

You may need to bring a photo ID to the polls, depending on your state. These IDs generally need your photo, name and home address. Driver’s licenses and state IDs are generally acceptable. Student IDs may be acceptable. Look up your state below to find out its voter ID law.
